Durgin Counseling

Providing Psychotherapy for Teens and Adults

Christian Durgin, MS, LCMHC

Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor

With 20 years of experience working with teens and adults, my approach is well-developed and grounded in the latest research. Because the therapeutic relationship is the foundation of meaningful change, I focus on building authentic connections rooted in empathy, support, and honest, constructive challenge. My style is collaborative and direct, and I value humor.

Services

I provide individual therapy for clients ages 14-65 in-person at my office in Hanover. I also offer online sessions for anyone residing in New Hampshire. My clinical interests include mood disorders, anxiety, ADHD, life transitions, and relationships. I draw from a range of evidence-based approaches, including CBT, DBT, and motivational interviewing, tailoring the tools to each client’s needs. Therapy may involve reflective exploration, more structured skills-based work, or a blend of both, allowing treatment to remain responsive to where you are and support sustainable growth over time. When appropriate, I collaborate closely with parents, schools, and medical providers, drawing on my background in education and my experience working alongside primary care physicians and psychiatrists to help optimize the overall treatment plan.

Teens

Adolescence involves rapid developmental change—physical, emotional, cognitive, social—and therapy must be responsive to these shifts. My approach to working with teens is collaborative and developmentally informed, recognizing that meaningful progress often involves coordination beyond the therapy session. I work closely with parents, schools, and medical providers when appropriate, drawing on my background in education and my experience collaborating with primary care physicians and psychiatrists to help optimize the overall treatment plan. At the core of my work is supporting teens in building a strong sense of self, developing healthy relationships, and gaining the skills and confidence needed to navigate this complex stage of life.

Young Adults

Young adulthood is a period of transition marked by increasing independence, identity development, and evolving relationships. My approach to working with young adults is collaborative and individualized, recognizing the complex interplay between mental health, academic or career demands, relationships, and physical well-being. When helpful, I coordinate care with medical providers, psychiatrists, and other supports, drawing on my experience collaborating across systems to ensure treatment is well integrated and responsive.
A central focus of my work is helping young adults develop a strong sense of self, build healthy and meaningful relationships, and move forward with greater clarity, resilience, and confidence during this pivotal stage of life.

Adults

Adulthood brings increasingly complex responsibilities, evolving roles, and life transitions that can place significant strain on emotional well-being. My approach to working with adults is collaborative, flexible, and grounded in evidence-based care, with attention to how mental health intersects with relationships, work, family, and physical health. When appropriate, I coordinate care with medical providers and psychiatrists to support a comprehensive and integrated treatment plan. Central to my work is helping adults deepen self-understanding, strengthen relationships, and develop effective coping strategies that support meaningful, sustainable change.
